About.
Arpéchéle is a small island country surrounded by the sea and black flowers of misfortune called Lycoris Noirges. The people of this country are born with a curse that leads to death at the age of 23.
The people of the country lament and oppose their short-lived fates. After many years of research, a system was created—a "memory download" system. Once the body dies, the memories may live on in a clone known as a "Reliver". These Relivers continue to resist their fate for another 23 years.
The story follows a girl known as "Death," as everyone she is involved with dies before the curse can consume them. Just as she is about to end her own life in regret, a mysterious man who calls himself the “Watchman of Death” appears before her. Under the watchman’s guidance, the girl will approach the truth of the various mysteries of death that haunts this country, whether she likes it or not... Without knowing that despair is the fate that awaits those who are loved by Death.

Adolphe is the protective older foster brother of Ceres, the heroine. He lives in the outskirts of the island and works as leader of the Corps, a vigilante peacekeeping group in the commoner district.
SPOILERS.
Adolphe isn't a native to the island, so he is immune to the curse of death that plagues its citizens. Countries outside of Arpéchéle were at war, which caused reduced birth rates. His parents capitalized on the aftermath by producing children and selling them to affluent buyers and research centers. As they believed that Adolphe was useless because he was average and wasn't bought by the time he was about thirteen, they threw him onto a boat and sent him out to the ocean near the "land possessed by death."
While the waters around the island are dark and turbulent, somehow he safely washed to shore. Sister Salome found him and took him in where he lived in the orphanage that would also eventually be Ceres' home. Salome, whom he now calls Mother, advised him to keep his age and identity a secret, so he states himself four years younger than he really is.
Adolphe would grow up watching and judging Arpéchéleans for forsaking morals and values to extend their lives, stirring resentment and paranoia toward the whole country in his heart.
